"One After the Other" is a group of small individual installations that continue my use of everyday materials. The visual vocabulary in these works uses safety pins, which can be deconstructed or combined with hot glue sticks, wall holes, and textured paint.

PIN PIECES / whole and deconstructed

Step by Step - 10' x 4.5' - metal pins, rods - 2004

I use the wall primarily as my canvas to provide the absolute integration of foreground and background.
The pieces take on an obsessive spirit as they are created, and allows a space for meditation.

Any Moment - 2003
metal pins, text on vellum
118" x 10" x 1"

Beyond - 2004
metal, rusted pins
42" diameter

The repetitive nature of the work also acts as an anchor and begins to take on associations and meanings that reflect today’s society.

Each pin is connected individually and manipulated instinctually until form and shape start to emerge.

Surround- 2003
24" x 24" x 1" - metal pins

Burst - 2003
metal pins, screening
82" x 21'' x 8"

Disruption - 40" diameter - metal pins - 2003

GLUE and PIN PIECES

Left Behind (detail)
glue, punctures, graphite, pins,
33" x 55" - 2005

Because I use everyday materials in my work, I want the meanings to be one with the material.

My hope is that the viewer can experience a connection, a recognition, and a re-awaking through the integration of these simple objects.

No. 9 - 2004
metal cord, pins, glue
32" x 36"

HOLES with GRAPHITE and PINS

Dawn (detail) - 2005, wall, graphite, metal pins - 52" di.

The series of work, "ABSENCE", finds its roots, in clues culled from the series of, One After the Other, which uses ordinary safety pins as its primary medium.

I use the wall as my canvas because its presence provides the absolute integration of foreground and background. The pieces, which predominantly use holes, are deepened and darkened by a graphite pencil, allowing the viewer to experience the absence of a concrete material and consider the inside and outside of this existing space as well as the surface. It straddles the border between sculpture and drawing.

"ABSENCE" Maybe it’s just a mark, a fingerprint, or a thread, but many times you can trace back to an original source using small clues.

Night...Falling - 2005
9' x 6' - wall, puncture, graphite, metal pins

Fall Out (detail) - 2005
28" x 58" - wall, puncture, graphite
